What to Wear to a College Scholarship Recogition Ceremony

I was honored to watch my daughter be recognized for her scholarship to her college of choice this past Saturday morning.  It was another cold spring day and I spent a few rushing around moments jerking outfits on and off before coming up with the right combination.  I wanted to be warm, feel comfortable and look stylish yet like myself while not standing out too much from everyone else and this embarrassing said daughter.  Here is the outfit I decided on:
This was also the first time I braved up and wore my leggings.  It was chilly and I'm so tired of tights right now.  One of my best friends told me she also had bought a pair of leggings but hadn't worn hers yet either.  She said, "I'm not a teenager, but I still want to dress cute!"  I can relate to that.  How different do we feel, anyway, from when we were thirteen?  Wiser sure, but the self is still there the same under all the grown-up trappings.
The cardigan has this interesting uneven cut at the hem which I tried to show here.  It's made of an incredibly soft sweatshirt like material so it was a cozy wrap for a cool day.  The best part was that it ended up being free since I used a $5.00 off coupon and the cardigan's sale price was less than my coupon.
Leggings and Cardigan for warmth, Booties for Walking.
Dots and Stripes.
My Lemonade Life:  This past Saturday was a fun day with my daughter, her two best friends and my mom.  We listened to inspiring and thoughtful professors, ate at the campus cafeteria and then made crazy photos all around campus of the girls.  Afterward, we went prom dress shopping where my daughter found the perfect frothy confection of pink and silver.  I got in a short visit with my son on another college campus.  (I am blessed that even though my two oldest are going to two different universities, they are still in the same city.  God must have worked that out.)  We arrived back home exhausted yet happily spent.
What I'm Wearing:
Red Cardigan, free with coupon
Black dotted top, $3, Goodwill
Denim skirt, $20, Eddie Bauer Outlet
Black/gray/white striped scarf, $3, Burke's Outlet
Black leggings, $3, Family Dollar
Black patent booties, $3, Goodwill

Total Cost of Outfit:  $32

Have I entered the contest? I can't remember.

So, are you telling us that next year, you will have three in college at once! That is a tall order.

Thanks for the congratulations! And Terri, it will be two in college next year, but thankfully they both received good scholarships. My "baby" will be 16 on Sunday!
