Wednesday Wanderings: Retail Therapy

All of my Wednesday Wanderings to date have featured thrift store or Goodwill purchases.  I've put much more thought into my purchases since starting my blog in January.  I focus first on second hand purchases and second on low prices for my retail purchases.  I also consider how the item I am thinking about buying fits into my overall closet.  I enjoy shopping more by having a plan and by knowing that whatever I buy is not going to break my budget.  That said, I did a little retail shopping this past week and I would like to share my finds.  First off...Target:
Faded denim shirt from Target.  $20.
I have been in the market for a denim shirt after reading a Links a la Mode post about how versatile they can be.  This faded out denim one has a nice 70's vibe going and will pair up well with this...
Floppy straw hat from Target.  $15.
Bring on the 70's!
...my 70's inspired floppy straw hat.  I tried on about half a dozen styles before finding the perfect one with a brim that's not too little and not too big.  Next up, I checked out the cardigans:
Soft green 3/4 sleeve cardigan from Target. $20.
A red one is on my spring shopping list because, in my opinion, red goes so well with neutrals.  However,  when I came upon on this soft green shade I could imagine the possibilities.  I have a page torn out of a magazine pairing yellow with green so this will go well with my yellow skirt.  My husband recently bought me a pale green skirt that this will work with as well.  This shade will also pair well with my neutrals.

I also tried on several of the designer dresses but decided against all of them for one reason or another even though I was quite tempted by one or two of them.  That was also my first attempt at dressing room phone pictures so that may be a later post!

Another cheap retail store I like is Family Dollar.  I ran in there yesterday to pick up paper towels, laundry detergent and the like because the store is small and close to my  home and I can be in and out in the time I could find a parking place at the bigger stores.  If you're not already a fan, you may be surprised to find that they carry trendy items and sometimes even cute shoes like these:

$5 at Family Dollar Stores.  These have great arch support.
As if I need more silver!
While thrifting is my main outlet for shopping, who can resist a little retail therapy from a favorite store on occasion?  What about you?  Are you more of a thrifter or more of a retail sales kind of girl?

I love that chambray shirt. I'm on the market for one myself, because they look so chic right now. I'm not a hat person, though-- my head's too dang big!

Great finds, but I just can't pay retail anymore. Twenty dollars buys so much at the thrift store. I've come across several floppy hats, but none have fit me perfectly -- still looking.
