Wednesday Wanderings: Yard Sales

One of my favorite things to do in the summer when I was growing up was to go to yard sales.  I guess this is where I learned my love of thrifting.  Back in those days we didn't have a Goodwill close to home and there weren't as many thrift stores as there are now.  Yard sales and outdoor flea markets were sort of a new thing and were gaining in popularity back then, at least where I lived.  So on pretty Saturdays in the summer you could load up and stop every few miles and hit all the yard sales on your way into town.

I still love yard sales.  You get to be outside enjoying the breeze and the sunshine and the beautiful rolling clouds in the sky, all while picking through your neighbors castoffs!  Sometimes a certain area will become a sort of yardsale mecca where different sellers gather and set up tables and racks of clothes and household items or some of them just sell from the back of their van or off the hood of their car.  I stopped at one of these mega yardsales the other day and picked up a few items from a couple of different sellers.

Cato red/white striped top, $3
East 5th shirt $2, needed for a challenge
Shirt worn for inspiration monday

Old Navy white cotton wrap shirt, $1
What about you?  Do you enjoy going to yard sales or do you just think of it as someone else's old junk?  I think of it as items with a history and then I take them home and they become part of mine.

There's only four more days left on my first giveaway.  If you'd like a chance to win an e.l.f. makeup set, enter here.
 Clockwise from top left:
All Over Color Stick in Pink Lemonade (smells yummy)
Eyebrow Stencil Kit  (great to use with pencil or powder)
Eyeshadow Brush (use wet or dry, I like to use it wet and spread on a thin layer of shadow)
Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 in Watermelon (a great glossy pink)
Shimmering Facial Whip in Spotlight ( a tiny dab of this gives a great glow)
Brightening Eye Color in Punk Funk (fun colors to go with the colorful spring fashions)

I love yard sales. I feel like it's a *lot* harder to find good stuff at yard sales than thrift stores though. It's like yard sales have almost become trendy so people try to sell anything.

Too bad we can't all load up and hit the sales together!
Meagan, I agree, I find more stuff at thrift stores, too. I think the thing about yard sales is being outside on a pretty day and the fact that it's such a wild card you don't know what you'll turn up.

I really like yard sales. I never have luck with clothing, or accessories. It seems like clothes are either out of style, worn out, or over way priced.

I do look forward to "garage" sales in my area...I notice that in the past couple of weeks they are cranking up.
