25 Things to Wear this Summer

I was driving down a country road the other day with my daughter.  We had the windows down and a warm breeze was blowing through.  The sun was shining, the weather was just the right amount of warm and there were big puffy white clouds rolling in the sky.  I had this indescribable feeling of well-being.  I remembered all the things I love about summer, like that relaxed feeling you get when you can just throw on some flip-flops before you head out the door.  The living really is easy and summer clothes do play a part in that.  I started thinking about all the things I look forward to wearing in the summer

  1.  Bare legs!  I don't know if this counts as something you wear, but I am so glad to be out of tights!
  2.  Stripes.  One spring, my friend and I found wide stripe knit tops in brights like red, aqua and yellow at the local Kmart.  I didn't have my money on me at the time so I hid mine in a container that was for sale in the store.  I went back the next day and bought them!  I wore those babies all that summer.
  3.  Faded denim jeans.  I like the bleached, faded and antique look for summer.
  4.  Thin white cotton peasant tops.  There's just something about white cotton and faded denim jeans.
  5.  Florals.  Brights or pastels, I love a flowing floral dress or skirt.
  6.  Maxi.  I'm happy this look is back on the map.  Isn't it kind of like getting to wear your gown around?
  7.  Midi.  Try the Grandma midi look.  You might actually like it.
  8.  70's Inspired Looks.  There's a lot of Jerry Hall vibes out this summer.  Grab a long lean skirt and a floppy straw hat and you'll be slinking around like "Studio 54" in no time.
  9.  Hats.  Because of the 70's influences, I've already picked up a few floppy straw hats.  I found several styles at Family Dollar for $3 each.  I will be wearing some of these in OOTD shots soon.
10.  Polka Dots.  Polka dots, like stripes, are just plain fun to wear.
11.  Color Blocking.  Color Blocking is an easy trend because all you have to do is layer and mix and match solid color pieces that you already on.  This is a trend that can be done without spending a dime.  Just use what you have in your closet.
12.  Whites.  I've always been a fan of white dresses so I'm going to try the all white ensemble look.
13.  Bandanas.  These make great, summery looking headbands and if you're skinny, you can use one as a belt.
13.  White jewelry.  White beads, earrings, bangles, rings and necklaces are a perfect summer neutral.
14.  Nude shoes.  I don't have a pair yet but I wish I did.  What could nude not go with?
15.  Mint green, lemon yellow, powder pink, sky blue and soft purple.  These are my favorite colors in the whole wide world.  No wonder I like summer so much.
16.  Shorts.  They're casual, comfy and cute.
17.  Flip-Flops.  Nothing like not having to tie, lace or buckle before heading out the door.
18.  Skirts.  Unlike pants, skirts don't give you "muffin" tops.
19.  Dresses.  Throw on a sweet summer dress and slip your feet into a pair of flip-flops.  That's summer simplicity.
20.  Cotton.  Cotton breathes!
21.  Wicker purses.  I love white wicker ones.  Once I had a black wicker one.  Wicker rocks in purses.
22.  Orange Lipstick.  In my opinion, Revlon's 24K Orange is a beautiful and wearable orange.
23.  Blue nail polish.  ...and green and other non-traditional shades. I'm ready for something new on my nails.
24.  Gingham.  I just bought a red gingham band for my hair.  Black and white gingham is also nice, as is pink.  In fact, I've seen several shades of gingham in stores this spring.
25.  Feathers.  Target had these great peacock feather headbands the last time I was shopping there.

So these are just a few of the many things I'm looking forward to wearing this summer.  I'm getting a start here with my OOTD.

Stripes, polka dots and flip-flops.

i love the little detail of the red/white stripes over the polka dots- you probably could have guess how much I love that! I am so looking forward to summer fashions- there's much more play in that season to express yourself. Here's to a wonderful warm weather season.

Debbie, I really enjoyed reading this although summer is the least of my favorite seasons due to my intolerance to heat and humidity. Thank you for the inspiration, maybe it will make my warm weather woes easier. Happy Mother's Day Darling... Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xoxo
