Thrifty Girl Vintage: Home Again, Home Again, Jiggidy Jig

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggidy Jig

Our high school academic team is one of the top sixteen teams in the state!  They were hoping to make it to at least the top eight, but nevertheless, that's a wonderful accomplishment for a small public school.  We came home after the last game, but the kids are staying for the awards ceremony, shopping and a celebratory supper.  We haven't gotten the results for individual testing yet, so there may be some ribbons forthcoming for our bunch.  I'm back at home this afternoon, making my daily outfit photos with my trusty tripod.  I missed it and I don't think I'll go on a trip again without one.  I thought I could grab someone to snap my daily photo, but that plan just never worked out.  I resorted to laying my camera on a ledge and running to get in place and all the while hoping that no one would steal my camera, purse or glasses while I smiled and posed!  How do you guys handle using a tripod in a pubic place without worrying someone's going to come by and snatch it?

I just realized I'm stuck on a skirt/cardigan/top/tights/boots combination.  And I just realized that's what I've got laid out for tomorrow!  Okay, enough of that...I am challenging myself to come up with some new looks this week!  Oh yeah...it's on.

The cardigan is a lovely color on you. Are you a teacher...that's what I'm gathering from what you wrote. I think clothes that allow us to move comfortably (i.e.--skirts and a top) are hard to beat.

Usually, when I take my photos in public, I have my husband nearby to run interference. Haven't encountered the problem you describe.

I live in a small town and figure someone would have to be pretty brash to steal my camera and tripod when I was only 6 feet away from it. Plus, it's not really that enjoyable for me to take photographs in the wide, wide open where general public can gawk at me as I preen and pose. (I'm more than a bit embarrased!) I'd just use it, but then again, I'd feel terrible if something did happen and some horrid camera thief did snatch it away from you!
And to answer your question on my blog: The outfit comes first! (I was in the area of that graffiti wall and thought it would be a great place to take some photos since it would compliment my outfit!)

Guess I'm just worrying too much about it. If I am in public, which has only been a few times so far, I try to pick a semi-secluded place.

I'm too shy to do the photos outside or in public. :) Being an amateur portrait photographer, I had always dreamed of setting up a "real" photo studio in my house, which I was finally lucky enough to do very recently.

Congrats on the academic achievements of your school! It's so nice to hear that some teens do still care about the things that really matter.

I'm glad to know most people shoot at home or in secluded areas. Looking at different blogs, it seems like a lot of bloggers are out shooting on location so I've tried it some but I feel so much more comfortable in my own backyard.

You are really rocking the red tights! I haven't figured out how to make them work for me yet. I've tried a couple of times, and I dunno ... they just don't "look" right to me. Oh, and I would not be able to take my pictures in public. I have a very good friend who is sweet enough to take my picture at the end of our work day. We are the night shift, so usually there's nobody around -- and if there is, we are really really dawdling around until they leave.
